Our team

Word Count Editorial consists of editors Kate Sullivan and Jill Yeomans. Between the two of us, we have: more than two decades of experience editing at Big Five publishers; ten years of experience writing, ghostwriting, and copywriting; co-ownership of a bookstore and the day-to-day routine of hand-selling books; and experience working at a major literary agency. We both have similar editorial styles— which is to say, supportive, flexible, direct, and creative. And we’ve got good senses of humor while we do it!

Kate Sullivan

Kate Sullivan has worked at several of the Big Five publishers, and recently was a Senior Editor at Delacorte Press. She currently works as a Director of Editorial Strategy at a major literary agency. She got her start in YA and middle grade, but she has worked with many adult categories including contemporary, literary, science fiction, fantasy, and graphic novels.

Jill Yeomans

Jill is currently closed to edits.

Jill Yeomans started her editorial career in 2006, acquiring young adult fiction and picture books at Little, Brown. Over the past decade, she has worked as a freelance editor for many major publishing houses, broadening her range to include adult fiction, horror, and memoir. She is a staff editor at Creative Nonfiction Magazine. As an author herself, she has co-written books with James Patterson, authored a middle grade series for HarperCollins, and as a ghostwriter, she has worked on several New York Times bestsellers. Jill is also the owner of White Whale Bookstore, and you will often find her hand-selling books to her community in Pittsburgh, where she revels in sharing her love of reading and discovering what her customers are clamoring for.
